Litigation and disputes

Disagreements can often escalate into a conflict that you are unable to resolve on your own. Most cases can be resolved amicably or through dispute resolution without litigation.

If, however, you are faced with a matter where you cannot reach agreement, it is important to seek competent legal advice from a lawyer and clarify your options—whether you wish to pursue litigation or another form of dispute resolution.

We advise and guide you on the case’s procedural risk, so that you feel confident about the process and understand our assessment of the consequences and the likely outcome of the case.

We have many years of experience handling disputes and litigation, and our lawyers conduct cases before the Supreme Court, the Eastern and Western High Courts, the Maritime and Commercial High Court, and the district courts in Denmark, as well as arbitration cases.

We advise and assist with:

  • Civil litigation – e.g., in connection with the purchase and sale of real property, defective work by contractors, disputes with the municipality, etc.
  • Other private lawsuits and disputes – including housing matters that begin at the Rent Tribunal, or neighbour-law disputes, including cases before the municipalities’ fence inspection boards, etc.
  • Housing court cases – e.g., relating to rent increases and similar matters
  • Criminal cases – e.g., traffic cases

Legal expenses insurance and legal aid

With legal expenses insurance, your legal costs are covered if the case is covered by your policy. If you have legal expenses insurance, we prepare the application and determine whether the case is covered. We then maintain the ongoing dialogue with the insurer.

If you do not have legal expenses insurance, and the case is of a principled nature, of general public interest, or of significant importance to the applicant’s professional or social situation, you may apply for legal aid, under which the state pays the costs in connection with the court proceedings. We help assess the scope of the case and can assist with the application and dialogue with the Danish Civil Affairs Agency.
